Rules and Eligibility
RULES: This championship will be run in accordance with the USA Dance DanceSport Rulebook, 2007-2008, which took effect on January 1, 2007. You can download the rulebook, which contains several significant revisions, at the USA Dance National Website, along with the revised Dress Code Regulations.
Please read the newest version of the rulebook carefully and comply with the rules when registering (e.g., determining for which proficiency level and age level events you are eligible), preparing for the comp (e.g., conforming with the updated dress code), competing (e.g., allowed or disallowed steps), and afterwards (e.g., interpreting your scores; tracking any proficiency points you earn).
ELIGIBILITY: To be eligible to compete at the USA Dance 2007 National DanceSport Championship, competitors must meet the following requirements:
- Membership: Each competitor must be a current DanceSport Athlete member, in good standing, of USA Dance or, if not a U.S. citizen, of his/her country’s IDSF member organization. Please be sure your membership is good through August 2007 before registering; renew, if needed, online at www.usadance.org.
- Regional Qualification: Each athlete must have competed in any one of the following USA Dance Regional Championship competitions held between August 2006 and August 2007:
- USA Dance SE Regional DanceSport Championships | Atlanta, GA - Oct 27-28, 2006
- USA Dance NE Regional DanceSport Championships/NJ Dancesport Classic | West Orange, NJ - Apr 20-22, 2007
- USA Dance NC Regional DanceSport Championships | Chicago, IL - May 19-20, 2007
- USA Dance SC Regional DanceSport Championships | Baton Rouge, LA - Jun 1-2, 2007
- USA Dance SW Regional DanceSport Championships | San Jose, CA - Jun 9, 2007
- USA Dance NW Regional DanceSport Championships | Seattle, WA - Jun 30- Jul 1, 2007
To meet this requirement, an athlete merely needs to have competed in any event at any one of the above regionals. No specific placement is necessary, nor are you required to have competed in the event(s) for which you register in the Nationals. Both members of the partnership must have competed, either with each other or with another partner. Note: If you have obtained a medical dispensation of this requirement by a USA DanceSport official, please advise Registrar.
- Residency: An athlete couple is eligible to enter National Championship events provided that:
- Both athletes are U. S. citizens OR
- One athlete is a U.S. citizen and the other athlete has appropriate legal documents allowing him/her to travel out of and back into the U.S. OR
- Both athletes have been legally residing in the U.S. for a period of not less than 12 months immediately preceding the date of the competition and have appropriate legal documents allowing them to travel out of and back into the U.S.
IN ADDITION, Neither athlete shall have represented another country or competed in another country’s national championships within the last 12 months.
CHAMPIONSHIP-LEVEL EVENT PROOF OF RESIDENCY: Each athlete who enters one or more Junior II, Youth, Adult, and/or Senior I Championship-level Latin, Standard, and 10-Dance event(s) AND all other Adult
Championship-level events)
must submit a photocopy of a document which will demonstrate proof of eligibility of residency, preferably prior to, but no later than, registration check in. Above-designated athletes who do not provide the appropriate documentation will not be allowed to dance.
Documents we WILL accept to meet this requirement include any one of the following:
- United States birth certificate
- United States passport
- United States visa OR Green card.
Documents we WILL NOT accept to meet this requirement: driver’s license, social security card, military identification, utility bill, or a non-U.S. birth certificate. These documents DO NOT constitute legitimate proof of residency.
Championship competitors, provide this documentation to the Registrar BEFORE THE COMPETITION (in our hands no later than July 28, 2007 please) by either scanning and emailing; faxing; or mailing/overnighting copies of the required documents to the following address:

DISCLOSURE STATEMENT: EVERY competitor is required to sign a disclosure statement and waiver before competing. Each competitor under age 18 years must also have a parent or legal guardian sign this disclosure and waiver as well. We would prefer to obtain your signed disclosure before the competition to streamline and speed your registration check-in. The statement may be downloaded from the link below. Please print, sign, and either email a scanned copy, fax or mail to the Registrar (see email, fax and address below) so it is in our hands no later than July 28, 2007 please. Couples may submit together or separately.

COMPETITOR CHECK IN: When you arrive, before you compete, one or preferably both members of each partnership must check in with the registrar. Each competitor must show his/her USA DANCE membership card to the Registrar (and his/her partner’s card if necessary) and sign the disclosure statement and waiver if not yet done, for package pickup. Adult competitors in Championship events must also present a photo ID. Competitors may be required to sign other document(s) at check in, such as those needed to satisfy IDSF anti-doping requirements. If you are dancing in a championship event (designated in the Eligibility -- Residency section above) and are not yet cleared for residency eligibility, you must also present your proof of U.S. citizenship or other acceptable legal document described above.
